How to prepare for a hike in Tatra National Park

The weather in the Tatra Mountains changes very quickly and you need to be prepared for it. Remember, Everything should fit in your backpack. Your hands should be free during the hike, no carrying a jacket or bags in your hands.

Hiking boots

It is important that hiking boots are comfortable with a thicker sole so your feet don’t get tired and hurt. More advanced is the hike, the better boots you need. If you plan to hike all day long you need to know your boots and try them before.

Waterproof jacket, warm clothes and gloves

Weather in mountains is unpredictable and it is wise to be always prepared for the possibility of rain and  temperature drops.

Sunglasses, sun cream and head cover

Sun in the mountains is always stronger. For a head cover it can be a hat, a cap or a buff to protect your head from sun or from cold.

Drinks and snacks

Ideally a cold drink and a hot drink. Energy snack, sandwiches, fruits. The size of your packed lunch should be appropriate to the length of the hike.

Fully charged phone

Remember to make sure your phone is fully charged before the journey. It is not only for beautiful pictures but also for your safety in case you need to call a mountain rescue.

First aid kit

The mountain guide always has a first aid kit however it is better if you also have one of your own.

Hiking poles

Hiking poles are helpful and it is highly recommended to use them while hiking but it is not obligatory.
